As the Gold Award is the highest honor for a Senior Girl Scout, the Juliette Low Award of Distinction is the highest honor that an adult can receive in Girl Scouting. The 2004 Juliette Low Award of Distinction was bestowed upon Theresa Mall Mullarkey, Chancellor of the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, at the Girl Scouts of Nassau County’s Annual Luncheon on October 26, 2004 at the Garden City Hotel. In addition, the QSP division of the Reader’s Digest Association received the Making a Difference for the Youth of Long Island Award.

"The Annual Luncheon helps to strengthen our relationships in the corporate community and build funds to deliver quality programming and reach out to every girl in Nassau County," said Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County, Inc. "The Annual Luncheon is also the forum where Girl Scouts honors the people and groups of people who lend their support to Girl Scouting and the community at large."

Ms. Mullarkey devoted much of her life to helping others attain a quality education. For more than 20 years she has worked tirelessly to raise funds for student scholarships, including the Theresa Mullarkey Endowed Scholarship at C.W. Post, the Thomas F.X. Mullarkey Professorship at Fordham University and the John and Laura K. Mall Scholarship Fund at Wellesley College. She currently oversees several building restoration projects at the C.W. Post Campus in Brookville and serves on the Landscape and Buildings Committee of Wellesley College in Massachusetts. In addition, a generous donation she made to the C.W. Post Campus is helping to restore and upgrade the historic mansion that houses the C.W. Post Admissions Office. She has graciously served as Chancellor of C.W. Post Campus since 1993 for an annual salary of one dollar.

The Making a Difference for the Youth of Long Island Award was given to the QSP division of the Reader's Digest Association, Inc. for their "Be a Reader" program. The QSP division of the Reader's Digest Association, Inc. reinforces in children the joys of reading while providing valuable entrepreneurial experience for kids and much-needed revenue for Girl Scouts of Nassau County.
