Christian Ferzola and Andre Stone after another great game. The Thunder ten-year-old team coached by Mike Welch completed their season last week with games against Uniondale and Inwood.

On Sunday they played the Knights from Uniondale. After a terrific goal line stance, running back Eddie Tigh ran 95 yards for a touchdown. Holding down the Knights on defense were Matt Fox, Dennis Armstrong, Chris Harder, Chris Barnes, Christian Ferzola, Kyle Cadigan, Bill Connors, Jake Schlapp, Serafino Danza, and Rob Savage. Tigh added another TD in the second half thanks to great blocking from Andrew Calabro, Brendan Adams, Nick Sheppa, and Charlie Bill. Uniondale scored late and the Thunder ran out of time and the game ended in a 14-14 tie.

Thunder Moms cheer on the team. The team had to rebound quickly and prepare to take on the second ranked Inwood team on Tuesday night on what turned out to be the coldest night of the year. After letting up an early score and trailing 7-0, Fullback Eddie Blatz scored from the five yard line after several long runs by Eddie Tigh. Inwood followed with a score midway through the second quarter and led 15-6. The Thunder team came roaring back with help from running back Ryan McLaughlin and trailed 15-12 at the half. After a fumble recovery by Matt Eulau, the Thunder marched down the field and now led 19-15. Key blocking from center Keith Blazer, Andre Stone, Patrick Murphy, and Nick DaSarno opened up many holes for the backs. Kicker Peter Alford boomed several kickoffs leaving Inwood with poor field positions. Also, Safety Pat Lyons had a big interception stopping a key Inwood drive. Inwood scored with less than a minute to go in the game and the final was 21-19. This was a great team effort by all the players against one of the best opponents in the league.
