Twisters Split The Weekend

On Saturday afternoon November 6, 2004, the Twisters (U-10G) met the New Hyde Park Lady Jaguars on the Jaguars’ home turf in New Hyde Park. The Twisters faced a challenge as the Jaguars are the top U-10G team from New Hyde Park, have been playing together for over two years, have won several tournaments and are tied for first place in this division.
The Twisters played with their characteristic, spirit, determination and aggression. The offense, comprised of Addie Zebrowski, Haley Shannon, Nicole Bommarito, Jessie Beh and Kathryn McDougal pursued the ball all over the pitch. Control of the ball volleyed between the Twisters and the Jaguars throughout the match. Although the Twisters had many advances into the Jaguars’ end, their attacks were rejected by a formidable Jaguars defense. The defense led by sweepers Jenna Pasquale and Mimi Johnson and wing backs Kaitlyn Curtin, Meghan Raphael and Lauren Coleman were constantly pressured by the Jaguars’ advances. Goalie Olivia Zimmer was all over the box making many nice saves. The girls played well, but in the end they were shut out 3-0.

On Sunday, the girls were back on the field for a make-up game with the Little Neck Wildcats. The tone and intensity of this game was the polar opposite of Saturday’s game. The Twisters controlled the game from the whistle. Olivia, Addie, Nicole, Haley, Kaitlyn and Kathryn all scored. Mimi, Jessie and Lauren contributed on both offense and defense. Meghan, as goalie, had a number of nice saves, which secured the Twisters’ lead. The Twisters completed a full weekend of play with a 7 to 1 victory.
