Twisters, Curtin and Beh, ready to receive the corner kick. The Twisters (U10G) met the Manhasset Marvels at St. Paul’s on Saturday, October 30th. The Twisters controlled the play from the onset. Nicole Bommarito started the scoring with back-to-back goals for a 2-0 lead. Meanwhile, the Twisters’ defense, Jenna Pasquale, Kaitlyn Curtin, Mimi Johnson, Kathryn McDougal and Lauren Coleman, constantly thwarted the Marvel attacks feeding the Twisters offensive line with nice balls from the rear.

As has been the custom this season, the Twisters picked up the pace in the second half. Addie Zebrowski scored twice early in the half. Meghan Raphael thrilled the crowd and her teammates scoring her first goal of the season. Next, Haley Shannon, the Twisters mighty mite, used her aggressiveness to tally another goal for the home team. Watching her team pepper the Marvels with shots, gave second half goalie, Olivia Zimmer, time to cheer. With five minutes left in the game, Jessie Beh took advantage of a scuffle in the Marvels’ defense zone and sent one flying into their net for her first goal of the season. After the game ended, the Twisters carried Meghan and Jessie off the field in celebration of their first goals. Each of the Twisters has now scored a goal in their first season of play together. Congratulations to each of the Twisters for their accomplishment, but more importantly, for their enthusiasm for each others’ and the team’s success.

On Saturday the 23rd the Twisters lost a nail biter to the North Shore All Stars 2-1. After the All Stars opened the scoring in the first half, the Twisters responded with a score in the middle of the second half by Addie. Goalies Kathryn and Olivia kept the Twisters alive with beautiful saves throughout the game. Defenders Jenna, Mimi, Haley, Lauren and Kaitlyn harassed and pressured the bigger and more experienced All Star attackers. Nicole and Jessie hustled all over the field on the offensive end. With thirty seconds remaining, a controversial hand ball was called outside the penalty box. The All Stars converted on the free kick with a beautiful shot to the top of the net. The game ended with the All Stars thankful to escape with a victory and the Twisters proud of their effort and competitive spirit.
