senior discussion group forming
Attention all Garden City Seniors! Have coffee and donuts with other seniors while sharing and exchanging memories, experiences growing up, family histories, cultural experiences and more...
You are invited to join a senior discussion group.
Come renew old acquaintances and meet new friends while talking about topics that interest you. The Garden City Senior Project, in partnership with the Garden City Recreation Department will sponsor this group, which will meet on Monday mornings at the Garden City Senior Center. The discussion group will meet for five Mondays beginning November 29th (no meeting on December 27th), from 10-11:30 a.m. There is no charge for this program but pre-registration is necessary. adult swim at adelphi
The Recreation Department’s Adult Swim Sessions will begin on Monday, October 25th at Adelphi University’s indoor pool located in Woodruff Hall. This free program is open to any adult, 18 years or older, who is a resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The pool is open for use Mondays through Thursdays in two sessions: 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm.
Anyone interested in this program must sign up through the Recreation Department. You must register each day you would like to swim by calling the Recreation Department at 465-4075. No reservations will be taken ahead of time. For further information, please call the Recreation Office.
children’s swim lessons at adelphi announced
There are limited openings available in the Recreation Department’s children’s swim classes at Adelphi University. These classes begin on Saturday November 6th. Please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall for further information or to register for a class.
2nd Session Children’s tennis lessons
It is not too early to register for the 2nd session of children’s tennis lessons, which will begin on Monday, January 3. The Recreation Department offers a full compliment of lessons for children ages 5 through 18. In order to find out about the variety of lessons available and to get th best chance of a class that would fit your child’s schedule, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall.
aerobic classes at cluett hall
Our fall season of aerobics classes has begun in St. Paul’s Cluett Hall. Our instructors provide a top notch workout in an enjoyable atmosphere. Our certified instructors tailor their classes to the ability levels of the participants.
The schedule of classes is as follows:
Monday: 9 a.m.Thursday: 8:30 a.m.Sunday: 6:45 p.m.
Wednesday: 8:30 a.m.Thurs. (step): 7:15 p.m.
The easy way to participate in classes is to purchase a “20 class pass”. By purchasing this pass you can attend any class that fits your schedule. Simply present your pass to the attendant on duty as you enter the class, have it punched, and enjoy your workout! The cost of the pass is $60. A pass can be purchased at Cluett Hall.
If you would like to try a class first, daily admission to any class is $4. For further information about these classes, please call Cluett Hall during morning house at 742-4905.

senior citizen Tennis time announced
The Recreation Department is pleased to announce the start of Dedicated Senior Citizen Tennis Court Time at the Community Park Tennis Facility. During certain times of the week, courts will be designated “senior citizens only”. This court time can be booked at a discounted rate of $15 and is available to senior citizen aged 60 or older who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The following requirements must be met in order to book the court.
1. Senior court time may only be booked up to two days ahead.
2. All players on the court must be 60 years or older.
3. All dedicated court time must be used for play only, no private lessons allowed on these courts.
The following days and times are available as of Wednesday, October 6th:
Wednesdays: 7 to 8 a.m.; Wednesdays: 2 to 3 p.m.; Fridays: 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

mixed doubles tennis party
The Community Park Tennis Center will be hosting Mixed Doubles Tennis Parties on the following dates: Saturday, November 6th and Saturday, December 4th from 7:30 - 10 pm. The fee for each evening of tennis fun is $30. Per couple and includes court time, balls, food and refreshments. women’s tennis league
The Women’s Tennis League has openings on the following days: Thursdays 11:30 - 1 pm Doubles 3.0 level, and on Fridays 11 - 12 noon. Learn and Play Level. To sign up and for more information please call Anne Marie Kenny at 483-2525.
junior ladder match play 2004-2005
Our Match Play Program is a Junior League Intraclub Program for children ages 9-18. This program offers competitive match play formatted to fit each child’s playing level.
The league is organized by age and playing ability. Interested children must be able to serve from the baseline, sustain a slow paced rally, keep score unassisted and have an understanding of the rules of tennis.
This program will be minimally supervised during match play. The matches will be set up by our teaching staff. All matches will be held either on Sunday between 2 and 3 or 3 and 4 p.m. or Sat. between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m., depending on the players’ skill level.
If you choose to participate in this league, the cost of the 10 week program will be $160. There will be no make ups for this league. For further information, please call Sue at our tennis facility at 483-2525.
