GC Thunder Maroon Nine Year Olds Shuts Out Uniondale
The Men of Thunder
On a picturesque fall morning, the Maroon Nine Year Olds blanked the Uniondale Knights 19-0. The Maroon Nine Year Olds are now 5-1-1 and have a firm hold on third place and are well positioned to earn a spot in the playoff picture. The game was a sound effort on both sides of the ball. The Uniondale squad came into the game with a potent ground game that required the coaches to make some key adjustments that the Thunder executed flawlessly. The Thunder defense shut down the Knights speedy running backs time and time again. The heroic defensive effort was led by Dan Bonchonsky, Mike Caravello, Ryan Dooley, Cory Fallon, Brendon Fitzsimmons, Sean Gavigan, Patrick Keogh, Joe Stone and Chris Thomas.
Joe Stone and Sean Walsh lead the way for John McDaid
The Thunder offense controlled the ball with long and errorless drives that ate up the clock. The offensive juggernaut was led by the stellar blocking of Tim Confort, Matthew Cortese, Chris Gallic, Eric Prevete, Vincent Scheppa, Eric Sundius, John Walczyk, Mike Walsh and Sean Walsh. The blocking was complimented by the hard-nosed rushing of Nick Croce, Peter Kerantzas, John McDaid, Tim Muller. Lucas Clay and Jack Metzler were unavailable for the contest and were sorely missed.
The Men of Thunder finish their regular season at East Rockaway on Sunday. The Raiders are 1-6 but field a gritty squad that can't be overlooked. The coaches and the players are looking forward to finishing the season with a victory and preparing for the post-season. Good luck Thunder and Godspeed!
