Fall Festival Street Fair And Homecoming This Saturday
The trackless train was such a hit last year, that this year there will be two - for children up to 12 years of age. Tickets and boarding at the Chamber exhibit in front of North Fork Bank.
This Saturday, October 15, from 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m., on Seventh Street, the Garden City Chamber of Commerce will present Garden City’s 26
th annual Fall Festival Street Fair. The event is in conjunction with the Garden City High School’s Homecoming Day Parade, to step off at 12:30 p.m. Featured will be sidewalk sales, fabulous food, along with an array of special events and activities. Seventh Street will be closed to vehicular traffic up until 3 p.m.
As is tradition, the Chamber’s Bert Donley will perform his special repertoire of songs while directing shoppers and spectators to various activities of participating shops, restaurants, businesses and Village organizations.
Activities will include the renowned Village Music Makers big band in front of Leos until noon. Following the parade, a barbershop quartet will take over. The Power House Karaoke will once again be at the Bank of New York. The youngsters will find the “Moon Bounce,” an annual favorite, at the Texaco Service Station. Last year’s trackless train, transporting youngsters up to 12 years of age up and down Seventh Street, was such a hit that this year there will be two trains. Ticket purchasing and boarding will be at the Chamber tables in front of North Fork Bank. Added attractions this year will include Inflata Hoops in front of the apartment at 99 Seventh. Sports Cage will be next to the Bank of New York. Several carnival games will be found on the north side of Seventh in front of the apartments.
For on-site information, to purchase tickets, as well as the Chamber’s Garden City coffee mugs, postcards and historic prints, stop by the Chamber tables in front of the North Fork Bank. In case of inclement weather, to set up or not will be left to the discretion of participants.
