‘Coming In 2005: 10 New Advances In Diabetes’

There have been remarkable advances in managing diabetes since insulin was discovered during the early 1900’s. New gadgets, medications and developments, especially in recent years, have enabled millions of people living with diabetes to enjoy a healthier quality of life. And, new discoveries are being made every day that continue to bring hope for the future.

On Thursday, November 4, 2004, Winthrop-University Hospital’s Perspectives in Health community education series will present a free lecture that will highlight some of the new advances that are expected next year. The program, “Coming in 2005: 10 New Advances in Diabetes,” begins with a products fair at 6:30 PM, followed by the lecture at 7:30, at Winthrop’s Community Outreach Center, 101 Mineola Boulevard in Mineola. Guests are asked to park in the rear of the building and to use the rear entrance. Admission is free but seating is limited, so call (516) 663-8300 to reserve a space.

Virginia Peragallo-Dittko, APRN, BC-ADM, MA, CDE, Director of the Diabetes Education Center at Winthrop, will discuss new medications, food-related changes and high-tech gadgets that will help manage diabetes more effectively in 2005. Representatives from diabetes manufacturers will display medications, meters, pumps and other items during the products fair. A question and answer period will follow the lecture.
