‘Popular Diets: Myths or Magic’

Atkins, South Beach, Weight Watchers – these are a few of the popular diets we hear about in the news today, or perhaps have even tried. But, the differences can be confusing. What’s the theory behind them – how do they work and are there nutritional concerns we need to consider? Learn the answers to these and other questions before choosing a diet by attending a free program at Winthrop-University Hospital on Wednesday, October 20, 2004, at 7:00 PM.

Winthrop’s Perspectives in Health community education series will present a free lecture, “Popular Diets: Myths or Magic?” on Wednesday, October 20, 2004. The program begins with registration at 6:45 PM, followed by the lecture at 7:00 at Winthrop’s Community Outreach Center, 101 Mineola Boulevard in Mineola, at the corner of Second Street. Parking and the entrance are available in the rear of the building. Admission is free, but seating is limited and reservations are required. To reserve your seat, call (516) 663-8300.

Arlene Stein, MS, RD, CDN, Registered Dietitian from the Division of Gastroenterology at Winthrop will discuss popular diets, their theories and possible long term effects. A question and answer period will follow the lecture.

Perspectives in Health is a free community health education program coordinated by the Nurse Specialist Group at Wintrhop, part of the Institute for Family Care.
