The Garden City Wizardz Boy U11 soccer team tuned up for there 2004 Fall season by competing at the East Meadow Refuel tournament this past August. Over the course of the three day tournament the Wizards fought hard against some of the toughest teams in the area - some spectacular play was turned in the Wizardz as they were led by.Jonathan Philippou in goal, Zack Westermann on defense and Tom Norberto and Sean Kiley at midfield. Patrick Farley, Aaron Miner, Frank Lisboa and Francisco Casado all played tough defense while Sean Doctor, John Kurac, Michael Nicholas, Mark Pustorino, Greg Silva, and Nick Zawisha all applied consistent pressure on the opposition.

The weekend after Labor Day saw the Wizardz opened the Fall league regular season against the Jericho Jaguars. Garden City dominated the first half with taking a 3-0 lead on goals by Francisco Casado, Greg Silva And Zack Westermann. The Wizardz packed it in tight in the second half and kept Jericho at arms length with solid defense as they cruised to the 3-0 victory in their first league game. Jonathan Philippou tended goal and registered his first shutout behind the defense of Aaron Miner, Frank Lisboa, Zack Westermann and Patrick Farely. The strong midfield play of Sean Kiley, Tom Norberto, and Sean Doctor kept the Jaguars on their heels all game. The following week saw the Wizardz travel to Harbor Links to play Manhasset. The Wizardz dominated the first half with great extra effort and constantly pressure. However Manhasset's defense managed to keep the Wizardz off the scoreboard and the half ended at 0-0. Although the Wizardz again dominated the second half it was Manhasset that managed to capitalize on a break and grab the lead late in the second half and eventually winning 2-0.

This past week Garden City returned home to square off against the Plainedge Devils. The Wizardz again dominated the first half with stellar efforts on behalf of Nick Zawisha, Michael Nicholas, Frank Lisboa, Greg Silva and Mark Pustorino. Francisco Casado held the Devils scoreless with several nice saves, Jonathan Philippou made a nice late run but was stopped with a n excellent save by the Devils goalie and the Wizardz again went into half 0-0. The second half saw a back and forth battle with end to end action - Tom Norberto, Sean Kiley, John Kurac and Sean Doctor created opportunities and had several chances but the Devils managed to keep it scoreless. Eventually the Devils broke the scoreless tie and took a 2-0 victory. Up next for the Wizardz - Windsor and then they resume their schedule the following week in Oyster Bay - GO WIZARDZ!
