Mustangs Win 4-2

On Sunday October 19, 2004 the BU-16 Mustangs traveled to West Islip for a morning match. The windy conditions were remnants of hurricane Ivan. Garden City started slow against the wind and fell behind early in the game. The Barracudas capitalized and took the lead 1-0. The forwards Manny Messina, Jeremy Lloret and James O’Halleran played with quickness and great ball movement. The defense anchored by James Ladner, Brian Wysocki, Justin Kirschner, and Blaise Ancona played fearless and confident. The midfielders Dan Lisoski, Alex Buck, Chris Pirog, Sebastian Gomez and Luke Mitchell applied constant pressure and a devotion to win. Kevin Volpe the goaltender had six outstanding saves. Chris Dioguardi and Chris Ciaffa provided guidance and supported their teammates to victory. In the 31st minute Alex finds Chris P. making a run on the left side. Chris P. shoots from outside the box blasting the ball over the goalie reach in the net. The half time score was tied one all. The Mustangs started the second half with the wind at their backs. In the 47th minute Sebastian leads Manny who fakes out the keeper and scores 2-1. The Mustangs hard work started to reap rewards. Manny dribbles around a defender and passes back to Jeremy who drills a shot thru traffic scoring. The Mustangs aggressive style and fast passing created scoring opportunities. Alex steals the ball from the opponent and floats the ball to Manny who turns and scores 4-1. West Islip kept fighting back and scored in 72nd minute to close the gap. The Garden City boys dominated the second half of the battle. Mustangs beat the Barracudas 4-2 final. The Mustangs controlled the midfield throughout the second half. The teams experience and perseverance contributed to this comeback Victory. The coaches John Fodera, Joe Ancona, and Mike Volpe were proud of the player’s steady performance.
