Education Is Focus Of Book By Resident

Heinemann Publishing has announced the recent publication of “Tales Out of School,” a book by Professor Glenna Sloan. Dr. Sloan is an educator with more than 50 years of experience teaching at all levels from pre-school to college. This book shows by example why sensitive and compassionate education is crucial in making the schoolroom a safe, inviting place for learners of all ages. Dr. Sloan’s stories, from both sides of the teacher’s desk, acknowledge and celebrate the professionalism of the best teachers.

“Tales Out Of School” covers more than 60 years and spans the geographic and philosophic boundaries of twentieth- and twenty-first-century education. Glenna Sloan’s educational memoir begins with her own experience in a one-room school in rural Ontario, continues with educational experience shared with her son in Long Island schools, and ends with her accounts of the teaching life today as professor in the Division of Education at Queens College of the City University of New York.

The book would be of interest to those in education including teachers, administrators, and parents. Visit the website at www.Heinemann.com to read sample pages. The personal experiences may inspire you to reflect on your own educational experience and on teaching and learning in general. “Tales Out of School” is available in the Garden City Library, as well as other titles by Glenna Sloan: “Give Them Poetry: A Guide To Sharing Poetry with Children K-8,” a book that shows how to help develop literacy skills through poetry, and “The Child as Critic: Developing Literacy Through Literature,” Fourth Edition..
