Reservations are due to the Mineola-Garden City Rotary Club for the 2nd Annual Max Cheney Memorial Gold Outing and Dinner to be held next Thursday, September 30, at the Cherry Valley Club.

The event honors the late Max Cheney, long-time Garden City resident and past Club president. Proceeds will benefit Rotacare, one of Max Cheney’s favorite charities. Rotacare, which provides free health care to uninsured people in need of medical attention, was initiated by the Mineola-Garden City Rotary Club in 1972. It was adopted as a Rotary District 7250 project and has been supported ever since by Rotary Clubs, Mercy Medical Center and caring companies and organizations. Rotacare’s doors first opened at the Mary Brennan INN soup kitchen in Hempstead, operating as a weekly “MASH” unit. In its newly expanded facility at 1220 Front Street, Uniondale, hours of service have been expanded substantially, providing the ability to assist many more people in need of health care services.

“While the bulk of our work is performed by volunteers, we still incur cash flow needs” noted Bob Bonagura, event chairman. “For that reason, we are enlisting corporate sponsorships as follows: Event Sponsor - $5,000 (to include 2 foursomes, brunch/dinner). Cocktail Hour Sponsor - $1,000 (to include 1 foursome, brunch/dinner). Brunch Sponsor, Driving Range Sponsor and Golf Cart Sponsor - $1,000. and Putting Green Sponsor - $500. (There will be only one sponsor for each event to be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.) Golf packages include Individual at $275 (to include 1 golfer, brunch/dinner. Foursome at $1,050 (4 golfers, brunch/ dinner). Non-golfers may offer support by attending the fabulous dinner provided by the Cherry Valley Club, at $50, following the Outing. Checks to cover sponsorships and/or golf packages may be made payable to the Mineola-Garden City Rotary Club and mailed to Thomas F. Tierney, 127 Second Street, Apt. D-2, Garden City, NY 11530.
