‘Sports Medicine’ Winthrop Offers Free Lecture For Athletes & Coaches
Sports Medicine – the term defines a comprehensive approach that focuses on treating sports-related injuries in athletes of all ages. Whether you’re a student athlete or a weekend warrior, don’t be kept out of the game. Learn how a team of all-star physicians, surgeons and therapists can help you get back into your sport in record time.
On Tuesday, September 28, 2004, at 7:00 PM, Winthrop-University Hospital will present a free program, “Sports Medicine for the High School, College or Recreational Athlete,” at Winthrop’s Community Outreach Center, 101 Mineola Boulevard in Mineola, at the corner of Second Street. Parking and the entrance are available in the rear of the building. Seating is limited and reservations are required. Call (516) 663-8305 to reserve a seat.
The program will provide information from a team of specialists who are dedicated to treating sports injuries. Presenters include Winthrop Orthopaedic surgeons Mark G. Grossman, MD, shoulder, elbow and knee specialist; Ronald Lewis, MD, pediatric specialist; Glenn A. Teplitz, MD, hand surgery specialist; and David I. Zaret, MD, foot & ankle specialist. George Gubernikoff, MD, from Winthrop Cardiology will address cardiac concerns for athletes. Tom Ferraro, PhD, sports psychologist from the Williston Park Professional Center will discuss the psychology of sports and performance, and Stephen M. Wirth, PT, from the New York Sports and Physical Therapy Institute, will focus on rehabilitation. A question and answer period will follow the lecture.
The program is coordinated by Sports Medicine specialist Dr. Mark Grossman, from Winthrop Orthpaedics Associates, P.C., part of Winthrop’s Institute for Specialty Care.
