Senior Fabian Villacis of Dery, Connecticut and junior Jonathan Russo of Garden City have been named captains of the 2004-2005 Quinnipiac University men’s tennis team, as it has been announced by head coach Mike Quitko.

“With Fabian, it’s like having another coach on the staff,” Quitko said. “He’s well-respected and a great leader.”

“Jon is a hard-working individual who always does more than you expect of him. He’ll lead by example for us.”

Villacis, who earned All-Northeast Conference honors as a sophomore, was a team captain last season for the Bobcats as well. Thanks to his efforts, Quinnipiac won the NEC tournament and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history.

Russo was an All-NEC pick a year ago at No. 4 singles, where he posted a 19-5 mark. For the season, he went a combined 27-13 in both singles and doubles action.

The Quinnipiac University men’s tennis team opens the season on September 12 at the Fairfield Doubles Festival.
