fall concert mini series
The Recreation Department will be sponsoring a new Fall Concert Mini Series. Two concerts will take place in front of 1001 Franklin Avenue. These concerts will take place from noon to 1:30 pm on the following Friday afternoons:

On Friday, September 10th, the Gary Reynolds Swing Orchestra will serenade residents and businesses with sounds from the 40’s through today. Please join our department in listening to this great orchestra as you take a break and enjoy your lunch “Outside on Franklin”. The Recreation Department wishes to thank Garden City Center Associates for making their property available for these concerts.
Tennis brochure has been mailed
The Recreation Department’s Tennis Brochure arrived this weekend at all homes in Garden City. This brochure explains our childrens’, adults’, and senior citizens’ lesson programs as well as other pertinent information on our Community Park Tennis Facility. To register for lessons, fill out the application in the back of the brochure and mail it to the address listed with full payment. For further information, please call 465-4075.
senior citizens’ tennis lessons
The Recreation Department is pleased to offer the seniors of the village of Garden City (residents aged 60 and over as of October, 2004) their own tennis lesson program on Friday afternoons from 3 to 4:30 pm. These lessons will be in a “Learn and Play” format and will begin in five week sessions beginning October 1st. The cost of each five week session will be $100. Registration for this program has begun so visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall to register.
Roller Hockey League Forming
The Recreation Department is now forming a roller hockey league for the fall season at Garden City Community Park’s Roller Hockey Rinks. This eight week program will play on Fridays evenings beginning Friday, September 17th. The league will be opened to children ages 7 through 12 who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The cost of this program will be $30 which includes the cost of a uniform shirt. Previous experience as a participant is not necessary. Our professional instructors will be conducting the clinics and practices. Paretn volunteers are encouraged to call sandy Young at 465-4076. if you can give us an hour or so a week, we would appreciate it.
In order to form equal teams,there have been several player evaluations. The evaluations are free of charge. The last evaluation will be held on tuesday, September 14th according to the following schedule:
Players ages 7-9 from 6 to 7 pm
Players ages 10-12 from 7 to 8 pm
Each participant in our league is required to have the following equipment: Helmet with full face shield, hockey gloves, elbow pads, shin pads, pants and a hockey stick. For further information, please call Andrew Karen at 483-2525.
Senior Trip To The Long Island Ducks
The Recreation Department is sponsoring a trip for Seniors to see the Long Island Ducks play the Newark Bears on Tuesday, September 14th. Game time is 7 p.m. Any senior citizen who is a resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City is invited to attend. The cost of a ticket will be $9.00.
Seating is limited and bus transportation will be provided. Attendees will be picked up in the Village Hall parking lot at 5:30 pm and driven to Citibank Park in Central Islip to enjoy the game. The bus will then bring everyone back to Village Hall at the conclusion of the game.

adult art classes at

Due to popular demand, the Recreation Department will again offer an adult pastel class taught by Arleen Ruth Urban. This class is open to adult residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The class will run from 9:00 a.m. to noon on Fridays beginning September 10th. The classes will be held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul’s. The cost of the program will be $125.
This ten week program will teach the beginner as well as advanced student the art of painting portraits and landscapes/still-life in pastels from photographs. Students will be given the option of dividing each three hour session between portrait or landscape, or they may concentrate solely on the subject of their choice.
Demonstrations will be available as needed throughout the program. Each student will receive the individual attention required to work at their own pace and level of expertise.
Arleen Ruth Urban, the instructor for this program, is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America. A winner of numerous awards, her commissioned portraits hang in the many Garden City homes.

New dance classes added for teens and adults
The Recreation Department’s Dance Conservatory Program offers residents of the Village of Garden City the opportunity to get top of the line training in dance at an affordable cost. The Conservatory’s Director, Felicia Lovaglio, understands the teenager had many commitment and has tried to make a dance schedule that may better fit the middle to high schooler.

Each class will run 24 weeks and will cost $192.00. Other classes available for this age group are listed in dance article below.
Adults interested in dance register in half year seasons. These classes will begin the week of September 20th and last for 13 weeks at a coast of $104. Interested adults may take the following classes:

youth tennis lessons offered
The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce the start of registration for our indoor tennis program, which is held at the Community Park Tennis Facility. Registration begins immediately by mail only. Walk-ins will be accepted beginning September 14, 2004.

To register: by mail only, no walk in registrations will be accepted until September 14. We can not be held responsible for delays in the mail. To register, pick up an application at the recreation office in Village Hall. You can also make your own by listing your child’s name, address, phone number, birth date, grade he/she will be entering in September and the camp you are registering. Mail all information with payment to the Garden City recreation Department at 351 Stewart Avenue. Please make all checks payable to the “Inc. Village of Garden City”.

dance conservatory classes to begin
The Garden City Recreation depoartment’s dance Conservatory program is set to begin with limited spaces in certain classes still available.
All classes will begin the week of September 20th and run through April. A child must be 4 years of age to begin our classes with the exception of Creative Movement. A child must be 3 years old for Creative Movement, must be toilet trained and must be able to stay alone in a supervised setting.
This program is for residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. To register for any of the classes listed below, please visit the Recretion Office in Village Hall.
