Our Beautiful Garden City Pool To The Editor: This was the sad ending to another wonderful summer season of fun and beauty at the Garden City pool. In response to the man who wants lower fees, and daily passes, I say to you, "NO" We all enjoy the pool exactly as it is, and I do not believe it is a hardship for the families, and if it is, may I suggest the put aside an envelope to save for the pool next season. There are rules and regulations that must be followed. Our new world wants to believe they can do whatever they want to do and not have to follow rules. Well, we have rules and we want them followed. It is beautiful, clean, safe and all enjoy their summers poolside. Most who travel and have summer homes are not interested in joining the pool anyway. I feel we must keep up the rates and no daily passes. We have picnic grounds, you can bring your own food, we have events, we have children who enjoy all the activities, and we have a great swim team. We also have a ramp for the handicapped which is greatly appreciated by all the seniors, and those who need that ramp. I suggest if the gentleman who wrote the article wants a less expensive pool, move to Syosset. Lynne Richner
Clever Printed By Request: Hon. Barbara Miller, Mayor Village of Garden City Dear Mme. Mayor: Uh Oh! Now you done it! Yes, you. And probably that accomplice of yours, Village Administrator Robert Schoelle. And how did you ever get such a nice guy like Fire Captain Eric Shields to okay the idea? Who ever heard of painting all village fire hydrants with bright red bodies and silver caps and gloves? Incredible! Now it’s time to face the music. Village residents everywhere see The Little King standing alertly on guard everywhere in our village. Every visitor to Garden City will now want to copy that idea when they return to their home. Yes, you will have to stand up at the next Board of Trustees meeting and accept the thanks, plaudits, and applause for bringing about one more clever, colorful and style-leading improvement to the Village of Garden City. Villages across the county will want to emulate your idea. Richard A. Benack Unfair Rules To The Editor: Thank you Marc Miner for your letter regarding the Garden City pool. I’ve been saying the exact same thing for years. Why can’t Garden City residents be able to use our pool when we want to? Who decided this? What an elitist decision. We joined the pool for one year. It rained most of the summer. We used it twice. The cost and restrictive membership rules are unfair! You can bring a resident outside of Garden City as a guest, but not a Garden City resident. Why should residents from other towns be able to use our pool, but we cannot? Is that fair? I don’t think so! Laurel Mancino Thank You To the Editor: The members of the William Bradford Turner Unit #265, American Legion Auxiliary wish to express their heartfelt thanks to all of the residents of the Village for their tremendous response to our 2004 Poppy Program. As a result of your generosity, we are able to continue to help our hospitalized veterans and their families. Our purpose is to provide the hospitalized veterans with the assistance that our government cannot provide to them. Many of these men and women do not receive many visitors, or have family to help enhance the quality of their lives, and your generous assistance is greatly appreciated. Again, thank you for your continued support. Clorinda Burdi, Chairlady Poppy Program |
