Wonderful Memories
Before: In this photo my mother is holding the youngest child, Robert Emmet. He spent five years in the Army in WWII. He had a great large family and died while still active in the NYPD. Next, at the left, front is Terence, who was the life of the party and an executive with Anchor Hocking in New York. Helen married Bill Wall and raised seven children and has resided in California for the pat sixty years. Jim, the writer of this article spent 35 years in the NYFD and retired as a Captain. (Had a few mishaps while on duty but I'm still standing.) Next on my right is Peter, the honoree in the "After" picture below. Behind him, is Jack, the eldest and smartest. While employed full time during the day, he attended CUNY at night and received his ACE and PE degrees. He was a busy man for eight years. The boy on his right was a visiting cousin.
Watching TV's new fad, "makeover" programs and similar movies, prompted me to locate these two pictures of my family. I decided to call them "Before" and "After".
After: My proud parents and Peter celebrate at the Elks Clubhouse in Elmhurst, Queens. He also had a full time job in the daytime and attended CCNY at night and then passed the bar exam. In 1936, he was the youngest man to be appointed an ADA in the Southern District of New York. He retired after many years as a judge in Queens.
In conclusion, the first three people in the "Before" picture still survive. Tedi is 92, I will be 91 shortly and Helen is much younger. I will borrow from Bob Hope's famous line - Thanks for the Memories.
