A free musical show, “The Great Vanderbilt Cup Races,” will be performed at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 30 at the Garden City Public Library. This delightful theatrical show celebrates the centennial of the first road race in the United States, the Vanderbilt Cup Race. The Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum adapted the original script and music of the 1906 Broadway show, which will be performed by six costumed actors/singers from St. George Productions.

Headquarters of the first Vanderbilt Cup Races were at the Garden City Hotel. The Vanderbilt family’s development of Long Island’s Motor Parkway was the model for the modern American highway. The centennial will also be celebrated with other events as well as a gala cocktail party planned for September 30 at the Garden City Hotel.
